Amid the ongoing controversy over Ramdev Baba's remarks over allopathy, the Indian Medical Association of Uttarakhand unit has now opposed the inclusion of Patanjali Ayurved's Coronil in the Covid-19 kit of the Uttarakhand government. The association said Coronil is not approved by the World Health Organization; it does not either have any approval from the Drug Controller General of India of Ayush as a medicine.

Dr Ajay Khanna, state secretary of IMA Uttarkhand wrote to the chief secretary of the state saying, "Coronil is however recognised as a food supplement by Ayush Vibhag of central government and is not a drug or medicine as claimed by Baba Ramdev on National TV on hourly basis advertisements."

The controversy has been going on and the IMA filed complaints against Ramdev and sent a legal notice to Patanjali Ayurved. Surrounded in controversy, "it has been reported that Patanjali has proposed to add Coronil as part of Covid-19 kit in Uttarakhand. This is medically wrong, the IMA said as this will result in a mixing of allopathy and Ayurved," the IMA said.

Further it said, "Addition of Coronil with allopathic drugs shall amount to mixopathy that is a cocktail of Allopath and Ayurved which is not permitted as per the rulings of the honourable Supreme Court. Apart from the Apex Court, several high courts of various states have also ruled that mixopathy is not allowed."

On June 3, the Delhi High Court today sent a notice to the Patanjali founder after the Delhi Medical Association filed a lawsuit. However, the court rejected the request by the DMA to "restrain Ramdev from directly or indirectly publishing (or making) offending material". The court also said the doctors body to file a petition instead of the lawsuit which had sought a token damage of Re 1 over the statement and unconditional apology.

The court charged at the DMA and said, "You people should be spending time on finding (the) cure for the pandemic instead of wasting (the) court's time." But the DMA too stood strong on its side and responded with strong objections. It said, "Ramdev's remarks are affecting members of the DMA. He is calling doctors names. He is saying this science (allopathy) is fake. Ramdev is falsely representing Coronil as a cure for Covid with zero per cent death rate. Even the government has asked him not to advertise it. In the meantime, he has sold ₹ 250 crore worth of Coronil.

Priced at Rs 545, the kit consists of three things — Coronil tablet, Swasari vati and Anu Taila. The Haryana government has recently anounced that one lakh Coronil kits will be distributed among Coronavirus patients in Haryana free of cost.
