Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders on Saturday met at party’s state president Subrata Bakshi’s residence to begin preparations for the party’s biggest annual event, the July 21 Martyrs’ Day rally.

Coming out from the meeting Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) Mayor Firhad Hakim said that party’s national secretary Abhishek Banerjee had decided to opt out of the poster that will be put up on July 21.

“Only party Supremo Mamata Banerjee’s photo will be there. Abhishek Banerjee himself had said that he was not present during the July 21 movement so his photo will not stay on the poster. As a national secretary of the party, Abhishek is running the party very nicely,” said Hakim.

It can be recalled a controversy erupted back to November 2023 when only Mamata Banerjee’s image featured in a TMC’s programme in Netaji Indoor Stadium. Party’s leader Kunal Ghosh openly questioned why Abhishek’s photo was not put up.

Meanwhile, after getting into controversy for abusing IC, Anubrata Mondal was also seen in the meeting along with his political rival Kajal Sheikh.

KMC Mayor Firhad Hakim said that Mamata Banerjee never ‘compromises’ on such issues.

“Questions are not raised when leaders of other political parties make the same mistake. Anubrata has been warned that such a thing will never be tolerated. None of us accept the thing he has done,” further mentioned Hakim.

Party leader and Lok Sabha MP Sudip Bandhopadhyay said that both the leaders have been asked to work together.

Taking potshots at TMC leader, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president and MoS Sukanta Majumdar said what can people say to ‘habitual offenders like Anubrata Mondal’.
