Known for its taste, dussehri mango from Uttar Pradesh is all set to hit the overseas market in a big way. Despite pandemic, traders in fruit belt of UP have bagged ‘fruitful’ global orders.

Traders have got orders (for dussheri) from countries like New Zealand and Japan for the first time. Besides, orders have been pouring in from Gulf countries such as UAE, Saudi Arab, Oman and Qatar. Figures show that last year too, despite the pandemic, 117.28 tonnes of mangoes were exported from the state. According to the traders this year, the export figures may cross 130 tonnes.

Besides dussehri from Malihabad, traders are also getting orders for langda and chausa variety of mango that is being produced in Varanasi, Faizabad and Saharanpur regions of UP. According to a mango grower in Malihabad region of UP, S Hasan, "This year, we have received orders from Germany and England also and there could be more in coming days.”

Wholesale mango trader Idrees said, "Rates of dussehri this year are reasonable. Rates of dussehri this year opened at Rs 30 per kg and will go down further in coming days.”
