Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Monday expelled her nephew Akash Anand from party.

The expulsion of Akash Anand from BSP comes a day after he was he was removed from all party posts and ruled out as Mayawati's political successor.

Announcing Akash Anand's removal from party, Mayawati in an X post stated, "In the All-India meeting of the BSP yesterday, Akash Anand was relieved of all responsibilities, including that of National Coordinator, due to his continued influence under his father-in-law, Ashok Siddharth, who was expelled from the party for prioritising personal interests over the party's welfare. Akash was expected to show maturity by reflecting on his actions and expressing remorse."

"However, instead of displaying regret and political maturity, Akash's elaborate response reflects more of his father-in-law’s influence—self-centered, arrogant, and non-missionary in nature. I have always advised and penalised party members to avoid such tendencies," she said.

"Therefore, in the interest of the self-respect and pride movement led by the revered Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, and in keeping with the discipline upheld by the respected Kanshi Ram Ji, Akash Anand is expelled from the party, just like his father-in-law, in the best interests of the party and the movement," BSP chief said.

Notably, last month, Mayawati had expelled Ashok Siddharth, the father-in-law of her nephew Akash Anand, from the party on charges of factionalism and engaging in anti-party activities.

Though Mayawati had sacked Anand last year from party posts only to reinstate him later and appoint him as her political successor, his expulsion from the party is unprecedented.

After being expelled, Akash Anand in a social media post on Monday said, "As a true worker of the Bahujan mission and movement, I will continue to work with full dedication for the party and the mission, and I will fight for the rights of my community until my last breath."
