Nine Indian Air Force officers, including fighter pilots who targeted terrorist groups’ headquarters in Muridke and Bahawalpur and Pakistan military assets in the Operation Sindoor, have been awarded the Vir Chakra - the third highest wartime gallantry medal, reported news agency ANI.
It was recently revealed by Indian Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Amarpreet Singh that Indian forces brought down at least six Pakistani aircraft during Operation Sindoor.
According to reports, sixteen Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have been awarded gallantry medals for displaying "conspicuous bravery" and "unmatched valour" during Operation Sindoor, India's response against Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack.
1,090 personnel honoured with Gallantry, Service Medals
On the occasion of Independence Day 2025, 1,090 officers and personnel across police forces, fire departments, Home Guard, Civil Defence, and prison services received prestigious awards recognising their outstanding service and commitment to their roles.
The accolades comprise 233 Gallantry Medals, 99 President's Medals for Distinguished Service, and 758 Medals for Meritorious Service, celebrating exceptional bravery and dedicated performance in the line of duty.
