Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday promised 300 units of free electricity per month if his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) comes to power in Uttarakhand. His visit to Dehradun is crucial in view of the assembly elections in the state next year.

While announcing the party's poll promise of free 300 units and others, Arvind Kejriwal said, "In terms of electricity, I guarantee four things. And this is not an election jumla."

"After our government is made, we will provide 300 units free electricity. Farmers will receive free electricity. Old bills will be waived off. It will take some time to provide 24-hour electricity, but we will do it," he added.

Addressing a press briefing, Kejriwal also hit out at the BJP and the Congress, saying leaders of Uttarakhand have left no stone unturned to destroy the state.

"Leaders of Uttarakhand have left no stone unturned to destroy the state. Both parties (BJP and Congress) have made an arrangement from 2000 to loot the state after the other. The ruling party doesn't have Chief Minister. For the first time in 70 years a party says its Chief Minister is useless," Kejriwal said.

"Opposition doesn't have a leader. They are coming to Delhi for the past month to select a leader. Who will think about the development of Uttarakhand residents? Are these parties concerned about the people of Uttarakhand? They do not care. They are only fighting for power," he added.

A day before his visit to the poll-bound state, Kejriwal had asked why the people of the hill state, which generates electricity, cannot get free power like in the national capital.

"Uttarakhand itself generates electricity and also sells it to other states. Then why is electricity so expensive for the people of Uttarakhand? Delhi does not generate its own electricity and buys it from other states. Still, electricity in Delhi is free. Shouldn't the people of Uttarakhand get free electricity? See you tomorrow in Dehradun," Kejriwal said in a tweet ahead of the visit.

His visit comes around a time when Legislative Assembly elections will be held in Uttarakhand next year. Earlier on Wednesday, Uttarakhand Power Minister Harak Singh Rawat announced that 100 units of electricity will be provided free every month to domestic consumers.
