Amid the CAA-NRC protests, a news report has surfaced about Sharjeel Imam, who once made statements about separating Assam from India. It has come to light on social media that while Sharjeel has been in jail for the past four years, his sister, Farha Nishat, has successfully cleared the judicial service examination.

This information was shared on social media by Sharjeel Imam’s brother, Muzammil Imam. In a Facebook post, Muzammil wrote: “Life is about contrasts. On one hand, my brother is fighting for justice against oppression while being imprisoned, and on the other, my sister will now serve justice by sitting on the judge’s bench. Farha Nishat’s success in the 32nd Bihar Judicial Service Exam has given us a moment of pride. I hope that during your tenure, you ensure no innocent person suffers injustice. May Allah grant you strength and courage.”

Who Is Mujammil Imam?

Mujammil, a politician and former general secretary and spokesperson of Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal United (JDU), also has a background in journalism, according to an ABP News report. He has consistently supported Sharjeel, often sharing messages defending him. In an earlier post, he described Sharjeel as 'an idealist who prioritizes society, humanity, and the nation over himself.' He reportedly stated that Sharjeel’s only fault is being passionately committed to his beliefs.

Following this post, Sharjeel Imam’s supporters have been sharing the information widely on social media. They claim that Sharjeel’s sister has become a judge and will now deliver justice against 'oppression.' However, we could not officially verify whether this Farha Nishat is indeed Sharjeel Imam’s sister.

Sharjeel Imam Booked Under Several Charges

During the anti-CAA-NRC protests in 2019-20, Sharjeel Imam faced serious charges, including inciting Muslims, instigating riots and sedition. He was arrested on January 28, 2020, and has been undergoing trial since. While he was recently acquitted in the Jamia violence case, he remains in jail for other charges.
