Sribhumi, Assam: In a blow to the narcotics trade, Sribhumi Police on Thursday (April 18) morning seized a consignment of 1.5 lakh Yaba tablets from a vehicle during a routine check at Kandigram. The bust, made possible through actionable intelligence, marks one of the largest seizures in the region in recent months.

According to the officials, the vehicle, bearing registration number AS 01 MC 2851, was intercepted based on specific inputs. During the search, officers discovered a cleverly concealed chamber beneath the bonnet housing the banned tablets. The vehicle was reportedly en route from Imphal, Manipur, a state often used as a transit point in the northeastern drug route.

Accused Nabbed, Vehicles Seized

Along with the main vehicle, another four-wheeler with registration number TR 01 AX 1646 was also detained. Two individuals were arrested in connection with the seizure: Yahiya Khan, son of MD Noor Him from Kwakta village in Bishnupur district, Manipur, and Sumon Uddin, son of Asab Uddin from Tilabari village in Sribhumi district.

Both suspects are believed to be part of a larger trafficking network operating across state lines. Authorities are questioning the duo to gather more details about the syndicate involved in the smuggling.

Police Investigation Underway

According to a report by Barak Bulletin, police sources confirmed that the Yaba tablets were packed and hidden professionally, suggesting the involvement of an organised drug cartel. "This operation reflects our ongoing commitment to combat the illegal drug trade," a senior police officer from Sribhumi told the publication.

Further investigation is currently underway to trace the supply chain and identify additional suspects.
