SAN FRANCISCO
For the last year, popular social networking giant Facebook has been adding several features, doing away with some, adding fresh ones, like the Graph Search and Hashtags, including overhauling its privacy policies. Keeping with its overhauling spree, Facebook recently announced that its Graph Search feature, is changing in a way that will be free from the confines of News Feed.
Previously, Graph Search has only allowed users to query around people, places, photos, and interests. With expanded Graph Search users will be able to search for topics that friends and other users on Facebook are discussing.
“Starting today, Graph Search will include posts and status updates. Now you will be able to
search for status updates, photo captions, check-ins and comments to find things shared with you,” the company said in a statement.
Facebook launched the service in January in an effort to help members better navigate the vast amount of information on Facebook, which is not available on Web search engines such as Google. But at the time, it lacked detailed information from member postings, according to AFP. Graph Search, which has been ordained a “third pillar” product, is as core to Facebook as News Feed and Timeline, according to cnet.com.
Facebook emphasised that the new effort is not Web search, but can help find certain information archived within the network and in the content of friends.
The company said the expanded Graph Search is rolling out slowly to “a small group of people who currently have Graph Search and we will continue to improve this experience by listening to feedback.”
