Bharatiya Janata Party spoke person Sambit Patra, who is contesting Lok Sabha elections from the temple town of Puri in Odisha, is receiving heavy flak for posting a video on his Twitter handle. In the video, Patra can be seen eating a food with a family in a village. But in the right-hand corner of the video, a woman is sitting and cooking the meal that is served, on a wood-fire and earthen oven.
‘This is my own house, my mom fed me her hand-cooked food. I, too fed her with my own hands.. and I believe service to humanity is service to God,” he said the video captioned in Oriya.
After the video was posted, Patra came under the radar of Twitteratis and they started criticising him and his government for not providing cooking gas connections under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Ujjwala Yojana scheme to the family.
The Ujjwala Yojana scheme, launched in 2016, promises to provide free cooking gas connections to rural women in Below Poverty Line households. The government had cited the scheme as one of its key successes.
