Mumbai : Spurned lovers in the city seem to have found a new way to extract revenge from uninterested girls. Five boys living in the Nargis Dutt Nagar slums of Bandra west kidnapped a 17-year-old girl past midnight on Sunday and took her to Mankhurd where three of them gang-raped her.
It all started a month back when one of the accused approached the girl who lives with her family on the footpath, under a bridge in Nargis Dutt Nagar, for marriage. However, she spurned his proposal. In a bid to take revenge, he and four of his friends kidnapped her from her shanty at 1 am on August 7.
One of the accused is an auto rickshaw driver. They took the girl in his auto to Mankhurd and three of them raped her in a room. The police is not clear about the exact area where they took her. “All five are currently on the run. We have alerted all police stations and are trying to nab them,” said Senior Police Inspector of Bandra Police station Ramchandra Dhawale.
The rape happened early in the morning between 3 am and 6 am. The five accused left the girl at a spot in Mankhurd after which she herself came back home. A complaint was registered at the Bandra police station a little after 10 am on Monday morning. The victim was taken to Bhabha hospital for a medical check-up. Cops are awaiting the medical reports to confirm rape.
Except for the man who had proposed marriage to the survivor, the police are clueless about the identity of the other accused. All of them are in their mid-twenties.
