Ahead of Lok Sabha elections, a statue of Erode Venkatappa Ramasamy, commonly known as Periyar was found vandalised on Monday (April 8) near Aranthangi in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukkottai district, reported ANI. The police have begun an investigation into the same.

Periyar (1879-1973), the Dravidian ideologue, who fought for the uplift of the backward and oppressed classes and an egalitarian society, is venerated by Dravidian parties which paid floral tributes to his statues across the State.
