New Delhi : Prime Minister Narendra Modi chose to stay away from the roza iftaar organised by the Muslim Rash-triya Manch, an organisation formed by senior RSS leader Indresh Kumar.

The PM’s absence sparked a lot of reaction from a section of the Muslim leadership who questioned his slogan of ‘sabka saath, sabka vikas’. Only one Union minister Dr Harshvardhan attended the Iftaar.

The Rashtriya Muslim Manch was launched a few years ago by Indresh Kumar as a platform for ‘nationalist Muslims.’ While the Manch has been organizing iftaars every year, this is the first time that the event was held in Parliament Annexe and envoys of dozens of Muslim countries were invited.

Explaining the PM’s absence, a close associate of Indresh Kumar said they had sent an invite to the PM just as they invited everyone else. However, there had been no confirmation from PMO about him joining, he added.

The PM’s decision to stay away from the much talked about event has sparked off fresh speculation whether the PM would host a iftaar at his residence or not? It has been a practice with Prime Ministers to have a get together for Roza iftaar every year. However, Narendra Modi discontinued the practice when he assumed office in 2014.
