Nre Delhi: In retaliation to a massive Tuesday march by students from various universities to protest suicide of Hyderabad University scholar Rohith Vemula that dovetailed into one demanding release of JNU Students Union President Kanhaiya Kumar, the RSS-linked Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Wednesday brought out an equally massive protest march from the Ramlila Maidan to Jantar Mantar.

The demonstration was to condemn all those supporting an alleged anti-India meeting in the JNU campus on February 9 and express concern over those trying to justify the slogans raised in support of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru on the third anniversary of his hanging.

The demonstrators carried Tricolors and placards with messages such as “Afzal ke yaaron ko, Joota maaro saalon ko” and “Youth against anti-national activities”. The other messages read, “India won’t tolerate insult to soldiers”, “I am against anti-national activities” and “Desh ke gaddaron ko joota maaro saalon ko.”

The protesters, who also raised patriotic slogans such as “Bharat mein rahana ho toh, Vande mataram kehna hoga”, criticised those eulogizing Afzal Guru. They condemned those trying to criticise arrest of Kanhaiya Kumar for alleged sedition on the ground of freedom of speech.

The ABVP activists had earlier last week staged similar protests in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai and Kolkata against the ‘anti-national’ sentiments that have risen from the JNU row.

Those joining the march included students from JNU and Delhi University.
