Mumbai : Enraged over harassment at work, a constable of the Defence Security Corps, which guards defence installations, posted at the Santacruz Air Force station, shot and killed two men, including his superior and another colleague, and injured two others early Tuesday, police said.
R H Yadav, 48, shot at his commander H. K. Singh, 52, and Somdutta, 53, with his automatic service rifle, killing both of them. Two others, who were identified as Bhim Singh, 51, and CB Thapa, 46, sustained bullet injuries in their legs and have been admitted to hospital for treatment.
Yadav was allegedly harassed by his colleagues who prepared the duty charts, and shot them out of frustration, Deputy Police Commissioner N. Chavan told media persons.
After the incident, which occurred around 1.30 am in the guards’ rest room, Yadav fought off colleagues who attempted to overpower him and fled in an auto-rickshaw towards north Mumbai.
The DSC immediately alerted Mumbai police, which intercepted the auto-rickshaw in Goregaon and handed over Yadav to Nirmal Nagar Police.
Investigations revealed that some of Yadav’s colleagues used to tease and make fun of him and change his duties arbitrarily which enraged him and led him to committing the crime.
The role of Defence Security Corps is to ensure the protection and security of designated defence installations against sabotage and pilferage.
