Patna: The four-day-long Chhath festival came to an end this morning with devotees offering ‘arghya’ before sunrise at the bank of Ganga and other places amid tight security.
People could be seen walking towards different ghats on the bank of Ganga river in the capital since last night.
Braving the morning chill, a large number of people congregated on the bank of Ganga for the morning arghya (offering) to the sun god. With the prayer before sunrise, the Chhath festival that started on Wednesday came to end this morning.
Festive mood prevailed at the ghats of Ganga with children bursting crackers and soothing Chhath songs being played on loudspeakers.
All the roads leading to Ganga were decked with fancy lights. The Bihar government is providing free electricity at public places on the festival.
Besides, many families gave morning arghya in local ponds and other water bodies.
Former Chief Minister and RJD leader Rabri Devi performed the Chhath puja at her 10 Circular Road residence. Though her husband Lalu Prasad is in jail, her daughters and sons were with her during the festival.
Chhath was celebrated quietly at Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s One Anne Marg also. The CM’s ‘bhabhi’ (wife of his elder brother Satish Kumar) and maternal nephews are performing chhath at a swimming pool in the CM’s residence.
Famous TV actress Ratan Rajput popularly known as “Lalliya” in the serial “Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo”, performed arghya at her home here with family members.
Alarmed by serial bomb blasts during rally of Narendra Modi on October 27 in which seven persons were killed, tight security arrangements were made to ensure trouble-free Chhath.
Public address system have been put at all the ghats to help devotees.
CCTV cameras were installed at at Collectariate ghat, Mahendru ghat and on Gandhi setu linking Patna with North Bihar over Ganga river.
