Mumbai: Eleven passengers were injured, three of them seriously, due to malfunctioning of transformer in one of the coaches of a CST-bound Andheri suburban train at the Dockyard Road on harbour line this morning, Central Railway authorities said.

“The cause of the incident was malfunctioning of transformer located in the second coach of the train which resulted in leakage of transformer oil. This is suspected to be the cause of burn injuries to some passengers,” a Central Railway spokesperson said.

Three of the passengers suffered 45 per cent burn injuries, he said.

The ten injured passengers have been admitted to the local JJ hospital while one is being treated at St George hospital.

The Central Railway has announced an ex-gratia amount of Rs 25,000 to each seriously injured passenger and Rs 5,000 to those with simple injuries, the spokesperson said.
