Vasco: After a gap of two years on account of the Covid pandemic, the annual Damodar Bhajani Saptah will be held on a grand scale with religious tradition and rituals.

While the Damodar Saptah Samiti had given a free signal to have the festival on a grand scale and allow visitors in the temple, the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has now decided to have the traditional fair with various stalls around the temple for a period of seven days.

Speaking to reporters, MMC Chairperson Leo Rodrigues said the same rates have been maintained for vendors who intend to set up stalls around the temple during the Saptah Festival.

"We have had a special meeting to discuss various issues and also elect chairmen and members of five sub-committees. We have also had discussion of Saptah festival and it has been unanimously decided to have the traditional fair for Saptah festival.”

“We will ensure that all Covid protocols and SOPs are followed during the fair and also have a plastic-free Saptah. We have decided to keep the same rates of Rs 1500 per metre for the stall so that we can get maximum vendors and people can get the same old feeling of Saptah.”

“We will collect garbage daily from every stall and we will charge Rs 1,000 as garbage collection fees. I will also request Panchayats Minister Mauvin Godinho to help us distribute paper bags to vendors and people arriving for the Saptah Fair," said Rodrigues.
