Bengali Food has spread its roots in various parts of the country and Mumbai is no exception. Being a cosmopolitan city, it has a sizeable number of Bengalis. Apart from that, other people too are curious and interested to try out this cuisine; Bengali food is known for its subtle yet fiery flavors and its wide range of fish, chicken and lamb dishes. The deserts are some of the best and well loved in the country.

We scouted around the city and found some awesome places which are worth their salt when it comes to Bengali food. So, what are you waiting for dig in!

The Howrah Bengali restaurant is not a separate entity but a restaurant which is in the left corner of Zaffran. The service is prompt and efficient. The food is great, a little bit on the expensive side. Though, you are sure to ignore that when the food is absolutely scrumptious. Bengali dishes which you can try are, the Thali, Aloo Posto and Shutko, Chicken Jhol or a Chingri Malai Curry. This is a well known restaurant which has been around for a long time. The food lives up to the reputation of the restaurant. Their food is wholesome and the Bengali patrons who frequent it say that the food reminds them of home. The dishes to try out for are Fish Tikka Dhakkai Style, Begun (Egg-plant) Bhaja, Bhapa Ilish, Smoked Hilsa Dom Jhol curry and Chittagong Masala Murghi. A haven for Bengali’s and others, it is a small place with mind blowing food infused with the flavours of Bengal. The dishes surely worth sampling are Mutton Kausha, Bhetki Fish Fry, Shutko and Shnutki Macch and Chicken Chnap. A simple no nonsense place that takes Bengali food seriously. This place has a repertoire for authentic Bengali food. The dishes which stand out here are the Parshey Shorse Bata, Beguni, and Chicken Khoberaji. It is located at Hakone Children’s Park, Hiranandani, Powai. The prices are 1,200 INR for two approximately.

This restaurant prepares awesome authentic Bengali food. The food is simple and is reminiscent of the Bengali food. This restaurant has an authentic Bengali vibe to it. The dishes which stand out are the Chingri(Prawn) Kebab, the Mutton Seekh Kebab, along with the Gravies and Biryani. The name of this restaurant derives from a district of Bengal. The service is good, the food is great but we wished the prices weren’t so exuberant the dishes to try are Aloo Bhaja, Coriander Chicken, Kasundi, Lamb, Lucchi Paratha and Kola Bhaja. The prices are 3,000 INR for two approximately.

We have covered the best Bengali restaurants in Mumbai, though there are two places which are part of the Bengali food scene in Mumbai worth mentioning.

A great place for Bengali rolls. The tempting items here are the Fish Chop and the Double Chicken Roll. The Chicken Kebabs and Parathas are amazing so are the Masala their coat their meat with. If you want some great Bengali Desserts, then Sweet Bengal is the place to be. The best desserts, they offer are Misti Doi, Kala Jamun, Sondesh, ChomChom, Malai Sandwich and of course the famous Rasogolla. They have outlets across the city in places like Malad West, Mahim, Shivaji Park, Ville Parle East, Cuffe Parade, Khar. Their prices range from 150 INR and above.
