‘The things I do for love’

If you are someone who loves throwing spectacular parties that leave your guests going ‘wow’, then look no further! Three-month-old, The Meraki Table by Gunjan Gupta curates luxurious dining experiences for people. They give their customers an unforgettable dining experience through their motto that food is as much about the presentation, setting, vibe and company as it is about taste.

The Meraki Table recently curated a GoT inspired table for a GoT fan’s birthday. Founder and curator Gunjan says, “Since our client was turning 29, she wanted a no fuss vegetarian grazing table, where her guests would serve themselves while playing GoT games. This is a popular and growing trend in the younger generation in India. We wanted to make sure her guests would enjoy food beyond the regular wine and cheese platters, typical for vegetarian grazing tables. We had to use a lot of creativity because GoT themed food is usually non-vegetarian. Working with our incredible chefs, we closely studied the show and selected dishes which we associated back to the key characters and GoT kingdoms. We had the ‘Army of the dead’ charcoal activated hummus and zaatar lavash, arranged in small cups lined up like an army. We also wanted the table setting and decor to give the dark and vintage vibe of GoT. The menus were printed in the GoT font and popular quotes from the show were presented at different locations. We even ensured that the flowers depicted winter and were complimented with lanterns, beautiful coloured glasses, tea lights, silverware and metallic cutlery.”

‘That’s what I do: I drink and I know things’

No Game of Thrones party is complete without dragon eggs. Khaleesi’s Dragon Eggs by Monaz Irani, Chef and Founder of Plate & Pint, is filled with mousse. Irani also serves an extensive range of food and drinks menu.

Irani feels there are a lot of things you can experiment with for a GOT inspired party. She says “Being a fan myself, (I feel) the possibilities are endless. To start off, there can be Cheese and Jalapeno fingers, inspired by the infamous ‘Little Finger’. A party without a dip is incomplete especially when we have the ‘Cleaganebowl’, salsa or a cheese dip served with ‘HODOR-itos’ marking a pivotal moment in the series and the party! For the main course, we can have a savoury ‘Hot Pie’ with Mince, Roasted Wild Chicken with brown sauce, oysters and a lot of wine for ‘The Feast Of High-Garden’ and Spaghetti Puttanesca (red sauce) representing blood with meatballs for ‘The Red Wedding’.” Talking about drinks, she says, “We can serve Wine Cocktails based on House Lannister, House Stark and House Targaryen. The House Stark special would be a chilled cocktail with dry ice effect, House Targaryen would be a chilli based cocktail to set your mouth on fire and House Lannister — a golden drink on a platter of golden coins.”

You can end the night on a sweet note with ‘Sansa’s Lemon Cakes’, ‘Khaleesi’s Dragon Eggs’ stuffed with mousse and cake pops as ‘Ned Stark’s head on a spike.

Chef Amal Farooque is a diligent fan of the show since its inception and her innate interest in the show inspired her to create several dishes on the theme. “Hosting a GoT theme party can be extremely exciting. When it comes to food, one should always look at bite-sized dishes, keeping it easy and mess free. I love to call my friends over, and create simple dishes inspired by the series,” says Chef Amal.

‘When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die’

Make your party memorable with some GoT inspired fun games.

Build Your Own Iron Throne: Challenge players to create a miniature replica of the Iron Throne. Make sure you provide them with all the materials like glue, clay, paper, sticks, colours, and sponge, to name a few. The individual or team with the best throne wins.

Night Walkers Ice Challenge: ‘Winter is Coming!’ Well, technically, winter is over but the ice challenge will give you a winter feeling. The game is simple and has only one rule wherein players have to hold an ice cube with their bare hands, whoever holds it for the longest time, wins the game.

Photo booth: Set up a photo booth so that your guests can click pictures, create memories and have fun. Make sure you insist your guests dress up as their favourite characters from GoT’s Seven Kingdoms. Liven up the booth with GoT backdrops or fun props. You can create your own props at home by simply taking a print out of Game of Thrones graphic arts and cut and tape it to a stick. Your props are ready!
