Bikers have right of way… everywhere

Bikers have right of way… everywhere

Let me start off by apologising to all the bikers (actually, every person in a vehicle). We pedestrians are a nuisance. We should be run over. We always get in the way of bikers everywhere and then pick fights with them over the legality of their act. How stupid are we? We are not educated enough to know the actual law of the land. It says that they (the bikers first and then other vehicles) have the right of way on footpaths.  Pedestrians have no right to use the footpath.

This law was ‘very politely’ explained to some ladies this week by a kind gentleman. This smart gentleman was going on his merry way on his bike when we made the foolhardy mistake of using the footpath. Naturally, pedestrians walking on the footpath weren’t enough reason for this gentle soul to slow down, and so he zoomed away towards his destination while we somehow managed to evade him and his machine. Then one of the ladies had the audacity to question the biker’s god-given right to ride his two-wheeler anywhere he chose. This angered the biker and like some ‘hero’ he stopped his vehicle, got off, turned, took off his gloves and came towards the ‘impudent’ lady to try and explain the absurdity of her action. He explained what a bigwig he was. The ladies, though, were confused because he wasn’t wearing that wig at the time. He then with considerable patience decided to teach the ladies the law of the land – who has might is always right.

And he was really disturbed that the woman who had initially questioned him was a resident of his colony as was her sister-in-law. That truly got his goat. How could someone that rude be staying in the same colony as an upstanding citizen like him. Horrifying!

He continued his lecture, but the weather being hot he got tired after a while and left.

But his mission wasn’t over. He needed to ensure that the discourteous people were taught some manners. And so he decided to visit the lady’s sister-in-law along with some ‘friends’ to instil some civic sense in them. They said that though they had no doubt that she and her relative were kind people, they had shown the other side. And they couldn’t have that in a civilized society. The ladies don’t seem to have learnt their lessons though and plan to continue their ‘rude’ behaviour till such time as their efforts pay dividend.

All I have to say is that it is high time the city’s authorities paid some attention to the ever-neglected tribe of bikers and ensured that citizens stop harassing these gentle souls and let them go where no other motorised two-wheelers have gone before.

(Opinionated to the core, the writer is rarely right, but likes to take it light)
