Actress Neetu Chandra has filed a public interest litigation (PIL) in the Patna High Court against singer Yo Yo Honey Singh's latest song Maniac, alleging that it promotes vulgarity and objectifies women. The PIL, expected to be heard later this month, also names lyricist Leo Grewal and Bhojpuri singers Ragini Vishwakarma and Arjun Ajanabi, who collaborated on the track.

In her petition, Neetu, who hails from Patna and is known for her roles in Bollywood films as well as producing critically acclaimed Bhojpuri and Maithili movies, has urged the court to direct the respondents to amend the song’s lyrics. According to media reports, she argued that the song portrays "overt sexualisation," with women depicted merely as "sex objects."

The actress also raised concerns over the use of the Bhojpuri language in the song, claiming it was being used to "normalise vulgarity." According to her, this not only misrepresents the culture but also undermines the essence of women’s empowerment.

"The song throws women’s empowerment out of the window," Neetu stated in her PIL, highlighting the negative impact such portrayals could have on society.

As of now, Honey Singh and his team have not responded to the allegations. The outcome of the hearing will determine if the song will undergo any modifications or face restrictions.

The official video of the song was released in February 2024. It also features actress Esha Gupta. The music video has been directed by Teji Sandhu.
