Ranveer Singh is all agog with the excitement of his biggest solo film in Rohit Shetty’s ‘Simmba’ where he plays a cop Sangram Bhalerao and romances newbie Sara Ali Khan. He has formerly received critical appreciation for his role in ‘Lootera’ and box office hits like ‘Ram Leela’, ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’, ‘Padmaavat’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and ‘Gunday’. But he also had flops like ‘Kill Dil’ and ‘Lootera’. Ranveer is not a Kapoor or a Khan and he doesn’t have the legacy of any film khandaan but he made it big in spite of the odds. His alliance with Deepika Padukone has now fructified in a happy marriage. At this key in the wake of his biggest solo release ‘Simmba’, we speak to a cross-section of the industry to know what lies behind the success of Ranveer Singh…

Jayantilal Gada, PEN International, producer, distributor

“Ranveer Singh came in from outside the industry and made it as a star because of his talent and immense hard work. Every role that he does is done with a lot of effort put in and you can give him any role, be it action or romance or his iconic role as Alauddin Khilji in Padmavaat, which is my personal favourite. He is here to stay for at least 10 more years. He is what you call a lambi race ka ghoda and ‘Simmba’, where he plays a cop, will be on the top of the charts this year and will fortify his rank as a superstar.”

Mehul Kumar, Producer, director, multiplex owner
“He is a star because of his total involvement in any role he does. Ranveer can carry off any genre, be it action, comedy, drama, etc. His films like ‘Padmaava’t and ‘Ram Leela’ made by Sanjay Leela Bhansali are my favourites. I have a subject for him which is based on patriotism, a genre which he has not done so far and if I get his dates I will definitely launch the film
next year.”

Sameer Dixit, Producer, distributor-Pickle Entertainment

“Ranveer Singh sticks to his job on hand and gives his everything to the film and the role. He takes immense pains in essaying roles like Alauddin Khilji. He is a no-hang ups guy and is easygoing and with no attitude. He may not be a superstar but he takes risks in his selection of roles such as the negative role he did in ‘Padmaavat’. He is a superstar for the future and though I am still sceptical about his next release ‘Simmba’, which is a remake of a South film and has been telecast on other streaming platforms, Ranveer certainly is here to stay.”

Anil Nagrath, Industry leader, IMPPA, trade expert, actor, filmmaker

“Ranveer Singh’s biggest asset is his hard-work. Right from his first film ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’, he gets into the skin of his every character that he is playing and it doesn’t feel that Ranveer is acting out a part but the character itself is what we are seeing on the big screen. I feel his next release ‘Simmba’ will be a super hit.

Komal Nahta, Trade analyst, Editor — Film Information
“Ranveer is a hard-working actor and a superstar for the future. He gives more than 200% to his every role. He is not averse to taking risks while selecting roles and he does all kinds of roles. I liked the trailer of his next film Simmba and feel that
it will be a super-hit at the box office.”

NP Yadav, Trade analyst, Editor — Entertainment Network
“Ranveer Singh ticks all the boxes, he is good looking, tall and handsome and is a very good actor and a complete professional. He is a producer’s actor. He is willing to take risks like the role he did in Padmaavat similar to what Shah Rukh Khan did in Darr and Baazigar. I feel Simmba will be a super-hit at the box office.”

From these appraisals it seems Ranveer will be in the industry on a long term basis. Though he entertains everyone with his wacky behaviour, he should guard against criticism for his over the top acts. He plays to the gallery with aplomb but should be careful about how he interacts with the media. Today the going is good for him but tomorrow it might not be so. We wish the talented star all the best for his marriage and future!
