Veteran Odia actor Uttam Mohanty was airlifted to Delhi hospital from Bhubaneshwar on Saturday after his health worsened due to liver cirrhosis. The actor, aged 66, was admitted to a hospital in Bhubaneshwar three days ago and was even put on ventilator, but his health further deteriorated, forcing his family to move him to Delhi for better treatment.
Mohanty's son Babushaan told the media that his father was undergoing treatment at the KIMS Hospital in Bhubaneswar, where he was first admitted to the ICU and later put on ventilator.
"Uttam Mohanty is undergoing treatment for cirrhosis of the liver. He is in the ICU, and his condition is stable. We discussed with his family about his health. We are making arrangements to shift him. He is on organ support, so he can be transferred through air ambulance," Manoj Sahu, head of the department of gastroenterology, KIMS Hospital, said.
Who is Uttam Mohanty?
Uttam Mohanty is one of the biggest and most respected names in the Odia film industry. He marked his acting debut in 1977 with the film Abhiman, and then there was no looking back for him.
The actor was hailed as one of the biggest stars in Ollywood for three decades, with 1980 being the peak of his career. He went on to act in over 135 Odia films in his career.
Not just Odia films, but Mohanty also forayed into the Bengali film industry and he acted in 30 Bengali films.
Besides, he also played in a key role in the 1991 Hindi film, Naya Zeher.
Mohanty was shooting for his upcoming film, Bou Butu Bhuta, when his health deteriorated.

Several notable names of the Odia film industry wished Mohanty a speedy recovery.
As per reports, before the veteran actor was airlifted to Delhi, actors Rabi Mishra, Bobby Mishra, and producers Stitha Patnaik and Tutu Nayak visited him at the hospital.
