Back in the day, headlines with megastar Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha’s rumoured affair stole the thunder from others. The highly speculated love triangle (as Amitabh was already married to Jaya Bachchan), created a havoc in their lives. Despite the silence maintained between the three, the awkwardness at every public occasion was quite visible for the media.
Rekha was on the famous chat show ‘Rendezvous with Simi Garewal’, where she spilled some tea on her rapport with Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan. When Simi quipped the evergreen actress on her rumoured relationship with Amitabh, she said, “”Absolutely! I don’t think she’s a petty person or so insecure.” Taking the conversation ahead, Simi had said, “Yes, and a woman is so secure because the man has given her the security.” To which, pat came Rekha’s reply, “Not really.”
Fast forward to the time Simi was questioned on how challenging it was to get Rekha talking about Big B, to which she said in an interview with Indian Express, “It was easy asking her the question about Amitabh. If I can ask Jayalalithaa if she was ever loved MGR, asking Rekha about Amitabh was much easier. A lot of people ask me how I got her to open up. I didn’t know if I did anything special. I don’t want to analyse it. I just chatted as good friends. Rekha and I go back a long way.”
As of now, Amitabh’s daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan shares a good rapport with Rekha, and even her husband (Abhishek) has time and again expressed his admiration for the actress.
