A multitalented personality, Vishal Bhardwaj, turns 52 today. He is a director, screenwriter, producer, music composer and playback singer. He debuted in Bollywood with ‘Makdee’ in 2002.
From ‘Maqbool’ to ‘Haider’, Vishal Bhardwaj has helmed some of the most acclaimed films in Hindi cinema history but the filmmaker has said that none of his movies have been a box office success. His film are based on suspense and action, 7 Khoon Maaf, Kaminey, Haider Talvar, Rangoon and among others.
During Rangoon promotions, actor Shahid Kapoor had said, “It’s my third film with Vishal Bhardwaj sir and every film with him is important, special, and relevant. I hope people will see and like the film. It releases one day before my birthday and I hope I am celebrating it with the success of the film.”
Bhardwaj’s film does not make much profit at the box office. But, commercial success is something that has never bothered him. “No film of mine has worked at the box office. They never made money… None of my films. ‘Haider’ just recovered the money. Not even ‘Omkara’ I was told. But it doesn’t bother (me),” Bhardwaj had told a leading daily.
Deepika Padukone to play Mafia Queen Sapna Didi
The director is also producing another film based on mafia queen Sapna Didi, which features Deepika Padukone as the lead character. Deepika has recently revealed that she would be playing the role of a Mafia Queen, Sapna Didi in her next Bollywood film, after Padmavati. The film is scheduled to release on November 17.
A source told to DNA, “Padmavati was delayed due to the protests by certain groups, but now shooting is progressing at a brisk pace. SLB wants to meet the release date — November 17. Deepika, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor will be shooting till October 20 to wrap the film. So it’s going to be close. Deepika also wants to finish the film so she can start her next movie based on Sapna Didi.”
Next film
Vishal Bhardwaj has started working on his upcoming film, which will reportedly revolve around the relationship between two sisters. According to DNA, the director is considering Shraddha Kapoor, Parineeti Chopra, Kriti Sanon and Sonakshi Sinha for the primary roles. Some reports suggest that the film is called Churiya. However, there is no confirmation from the director yet about the film’s title.
