Actor Vijay Sethupathi has addressed the controversy surrounding a viral video involving his son, Surya Vijay Sethupathi, amid the debut of the young actor's with the film Phoenix. The senior actor offered a public apology and clarified his stand at the premiere of Phoenix, where he appeared in full support of his son.

The video in question was circulated online, triggering criticism and speculation. There were also reports suggesting that Vijay Sethupathi may have pressured individuals to take down videos related to the incident.

According to India Glitz Tamil, responding to the allegations at the event, Vijay reportedly said during a media interaction at the premiere, "If something like that happened, it might have been done unknowingly or by someone else. I sincerely apologise if anyone was hurt or misunderstood the intention."

Vijay also took the opportunity to thank the team behind Phoenix and expressed his gratitude to those who came to support the film. A video of Vijay hugging and shaking hands with Surya after the film's screening has also gone viral on social media platforms.

The actor also extended his congratulations to action director-turned-filmmaker Anl Arasu, who directed Phoenix, and said he hopes audiences embrace the film and Surya's performance.
