Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In is an action crime thriller film which is directed by Soi Cheang. It is an adaptation of the novel City of Darkness by Yuyi and the manhua of the same name by Andy Seto. The film officially began in November 2021 and wrapped up in April 2022. It was released in Hong Kong and mainland China on May 1, 2024, and received critical acclaim. It is set to premiere on OTT in March 2025.

Festival Screenings and Acclaim

The film was selected to be in the Official Selection (Midnight Screening) of the 2024 Cannes Film Festival as part of the screened competition. It was selected as Hong Kong's official entry for Best International Feature Film at the 97th Academy Awards but it was not nominated. However, it received the award in the category of Best Film at 31st Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards.

The anticipated film is set to be released digitally on March 27, 2025. It will be available on Amazon Prime Video.

Plot overview

Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In tells the story of Chan Lok-kwan, a troubled young man who unwittingly steps into the infamous Kowloon Walled City after being deceived by Mr. Big and escapes with pilfered drugs. In that place, he meets Cyclone, the criminal leader of the city, and discovers the balance between order and chaos in the community, establishing connections with Cyclone and his crew while exploring a realm of survival and personal growth.

The film features Louis Koo as Cyclone, Richie Jen as Dik Chau, Sammo Hung as Mr Big, Raymond Lam as Chan Lok-kwan, Terrance Lau as Shin, Kenny Wong as Tiger, Tony Wu as Twelfth Master, Cecilia Choi as Jim's wife, and Aaron Kwok as Jim, among others. The screenplay of the film is penned by Au Kin-yee, Shum Kwan-sin, Lai Chun, Chan Taili, and Shum Kwan-sin.
