A 35-year-old Punjabi man has been arrested for alerting the control room of Mumbai Police about fake information regarding a purported death threat to Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff.
The accused claimed that Rs 2 lakh was paid to kill Tiger. The Khar Police registered a case against the accused for allegedly spreading false information.
The accused has been identified as Manish Kumar Sujinder Singh. Originally from Punjab, Manish Kumar called the Mumbai Police control room on Monday (April 21) and claimed that some individuals from the security company Trig were planning to kill Tiger.
Moreover, the accused stated that he had been given a weapon and a 'supari' (contract) worth Rs 2 lakh to carry out the murder. This call caused a stir, and the security system was immediately activated following the threat made in the actor’s name.
However, after verifying the facts, the police discovered that Manish Kumar had provided false information to the control room.
Deputy Commissioner of police, (additional charge of Zone-9) Nimit Goyal, stated, "The police had filed an FIR on Monday. The team has apprehended the accused. It was a complete hoax, as the story on verification was completely false. The accused is coming with the team."
As a result, the Khar Police registered a case against him under Sections 212 (furnishing false information), 217 (giving false information with intent to cause a public servant to misuse lawful power to injure another person), and 353(2) (statements conducing to public mischief) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The police are continuing their investigation into the matter. Meanwhile, it is worth noting that the control room had earlier received similar threatening calls in the name of actor Salman Khan.
