Ace dancer and actress Sudhaa Chandran was present at the announcement of Shehzade Hunar Ke, a national talent hunt show for singing, dancing and modelling. Also present were veteran actress Beena Banerjee and Vidyadhar Phatak. India’s pop and jazz icon Usha Uthup had also joined virtually. The show is presented by Fame and Glory Media Pvt Ltd.

Sudhaa, who has made her presence felt in the television industry and films, spoke about judging the talent and how initially she had so many queries while she started her journey with her artificial limb, but she proved herself to be a personality to reckon with.

“This is a reality show where we will go all over the country and select the talented lot. Children are multi-talented. It is very difficult to judge. There is a tsunami of talent which is springing up from India. I will teach them dance and will also learn from them,” she shares.

Opening up about the beginning of her journey, she reminisces, “In the past, when I was thinking will I be able to dance with my artificial limb? And if I am unable to perform to the expectations of the people, what would happen? Society and people were then like a stigma. And we care for them a lot. I decided to concentrate on myself and exhibit my talent, not to prove it. Watching Jyoti, who also has an artificial limb, perform on stage today was nostalgic. Pain but pleasure bhi tha.”

Elaborating further, she adds, “In our time, there were no reality shows, but we were trained in dance. But today, when kids get trained, they are put into a competitive mould as they are made to watch reality shows. I think this is not necessary. During this formative age, they should only learn to perform arts. The competition takes its course. A competitive spirit is very important, but it should be positive-oriented. I will still say forget the competition. There are so many avenues, and children come down with a mission unlike us. We just followed our parents, and I am here. I grew every day. We never came in prepared. We didn’t have any mentors. We only followed the directors.”
