The FIR has been filed by advocate Sudhir Kumar Ojha with a plea that the movie presented former Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh and other public figures in bad light.
Apparently, on January 8, the court had ordered police to lodge an FIR against the actors and 12 others on a complaint filed by advocate Sudhir. However order was not complied by the police. The court then took objection to non-compliance of its January 8 order in this regard, after which an FIR was lodged at the Kanti police station on Tuesday.
Speaking on the same, Ojha said, “On this, the court issued show-cause notice to Kanti police station through the Muzaffarpur senior superintendent of police after which police lodged an FIR yesterday (Tuesday),”
Apart from Akshaye Khanna and Anupam Kher who reprised the role of Sanjaya Baru and Manmohan Singh respectively, other actors of The Accidental Prime Minister who have been named in the FIR are Suzanne Bernert (Sonia Gandhi), Arjun Mathur (Rahul Gandhi), Vimal Verma (Lalu Prasad Yadav), Avtar Sahni (Lal Krishna Advani), and Ram Avtar (Atal Bihari Vajpayee). The director of the film Vijay Ratnakar Gutte and producers Sunil Bohra and Dhaval Gada and few other key people have also been named in the FIR.
Ojha alleged that the public figures in The Accidental Prime Minister were portrayed in a manner that projected a poor image of the country.
For those unaware, The Accidental Prime Minister is based on the memoir by Indian policy analyst Sanjaya Baru, with the same name which explores Manmohan Singh’s tenure as the Prime Minister of India, and the kind of control he had over his cabinet and the country.
