One of the much-awaited films of 2018, Soorma has finally hit the screens today. Diljit Dosanjh, Taapsee Pannu and Angad Bedi starrer Indian hockey player Sandeep Singh’s biopic has had given hints to be one of the great biopics you would have ever seen. But sadly it fails to impress us. Directed by Shaad Ali, Soorma seems flat and fails to create drama in the film.

So, let’s look at some points which you should consider before you go to watch Soorma:

Diljit Dosanjh and Angad Bedi’s best performance

The things which stand out the most in Soorma are Diljit Dosanjh (Sandeep Singh) and Angad Bedi (Bikramjeet Singh). Yes, so far, Diljit Dosanjh has given the best performance of his career. His intensity, innocence, perfection indicates that he is the perfect person to play Sandeep Singh on-screen. Especially, when his character goes into the dark phase of his life, Diljit’s intensity will leave you surprised. After all, his dedication can be seen through his performance. On the other hand, like Diljit, Angad Bedi who is playing Sandeep Singh’s elder brother Bikramjeet is the pillar of the film. His supportive brother character will connect to your heart. In one scene, the way he expresses his grief to Sandeep in front of his family, that scene will melt your heart. We must say, Angad should get special accolades for his performance in Soorma.

True backbone Satish Kaushik and Vijay Raaz

Apart from Diljit and Angad, Satish Kaushik and Vijay Raaz have given their stunning performances in the film. If you talk of Satish’s character, you will say that I should have such kind of father. After all, his character is so effective that some of his dialogue can make your eyes wet. There is a sequence in the film where a man inquires about Sandeep’s health, but sadly Sandeep’s father played by Satish Kaushik gives an answer which can relate you to his pain. Apart from Satish, Vijay Raaz as a coach of the academy is the highlight of the film. Comparatively, Vijay Raaz did a fair job in the film but some of his punchlines will definitely tickle you a lot. Like there is one dialogue where he says to the goons that, “Bihari hai hum thuk ke matha mai ched kar denge” is the funniest dialogues of the film.

Limited but delightful Taapsee Pannu

Taapsee Pannu, who is playing Harmanpreet is a delight to watch for. She looks pretty yet appealing in the film. Her hockey skills are worth watching. Especially, her chemistry with Diljit looks refreshing and energetic. Though her appearance is limited it’s delightful to watch her.

Bad direction by Shaad Ali

Shaad Ali is known for making Mani Ratnam films’ remake. But this time when it came to showing his creativity, the director fails. Sandeep Singh’s life story is nothing but a gamble of a lot of ups and downs. However, the director fails to portray his story in an effective manner.

Average Music

Composer Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy are the whole and sole of the film’s music. However, their music is average. Songs like Ishq Di Baajiyaan, Soorma Anthem are appealing but the rest of the songs don’t give you any reason to remember.

Overall, Soorma is an average film which lacks drama but if you are a Diljit Dosanjh fans then he won’t disappoint you.
