In a recent development, the makers of Bhuj: The Pride Of India has roped in actress Sonakshi Sinha for the film which is based on the 1971 India-Pakistan war. While Ajay plays the real life character of Squadron Leader Vijay Karnik, not much is known about Sona’s role. According to the sources, the actress will either play Ajay’s wife or one of the 300 brave women who contributed to rebuild the airstrip which was destroyed by Pakistani air strikes.
For those unaware, Vijay Karnik, was in charge of the Bhuj airport during the 1971 India-Pakistan war. Vijay rallied together 300 local women to rebuild the airstrip which was destroyed by Pakistani air strikes, so that the Indian Air Force could make a safe landing.
While speaking to The Indian Express, Vijay Karnik said, “We were fighting a war and if there had been any casualties of any of these women, it would have been a great loss. But I took the decision and it worked out. I had briefed them where they could take shelter if attacked and they followed it bravely. Also, I could only see Ajay Devgn essaying my character and I’m glad that he’s on board,”
On work front, while Ajay is currently shooting for Taanaji – The Unsung Warrior, Sonakshi is busy promoting her upcoming film Kalank.
