Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi strongly criticised Bollywood filmmakers and production houses for rushing to register the title Operation Sindoor in the wake of India's recent military success.

Her sharp remark came on Friday (May 9) after reports revealed that as many as 15 filmmakers and studios applied for the title at the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA), a key body that oversees film title registrations in India.

Taking to X (formerly known as Twitter), Priyanka wrote simply yet scathingly, "Shameless vultures."

According to media reports, the first application for the title was submitted by Mahaveer Jain's production company. Shortly after, notable industry names including filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar, producer Ashoke Pandit, and major banners like T-Series and Zee Studios also filed for the same title.

John Abraham's production house and Yami Gautam's husband Aditya Dhar's production banner have also reportedly sent their applications.

The overwhelming interest highlights the film industry's race to dramatise real-time national events, often before the dust has settled.

Initial reports had also suggested that Reliance Industries was among the applicants. However, the conglomerate has since issued a statement refuting these claims and distancing itself from the controversy.

The rush for the title follows the Indian Armed Forces’ high-risk and successful mission dubbed Operation Sindoor, which neutralised terror threats across the border.

While the mission has been hailed as a strategic and moral victory, the film industry's eagerness to capitalise on the event has stirred a debate on the ethics of storytelling and profiteering from real-life conflict.
