Stand up comedian Samay Raina shared an update with his fans and followers about his upcoming shows in India amid India's Got Latent controversy. For those unversed, Samay has cancelled all his shows which were a part of his India tour. Tickets for all his shows were sold out completely via advanced bookings.
On Thursday (March 20), Samay took to his Instagram story and wrote, "Hello guys, I am rescheduling my India tour. You all will get the refunds shortly, see you soon."
He also added a red heart and folded hand emoticon along with his short note. Take a look:
Samay was scheduled to perform in Delhi on March 21 and 23 at Talkatora Stadium. His shows scheduled in Gujarat's Ahmedabad and Surat were also cancelled following threats from Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
The comedian was also scheduled to perform in other cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata from March to April.
For those unversed, Samay was in Canada for his LIVE shows ever since the India's Got Latent controversy erupted in India. He also cracked a joke over the controversy at one of his shows and said, "Iss show pe bahut mauka ayega, jahan aapko lag sakta hai ki main bahot funny kuch bol sakta hoon, par tab Beerbiceps ko yaad kar lena bhai... Shayad samay kharab chal raha hai mera, par yaad rakhna doston, main samay hoon."
India's Got Latent controversy
It all started after YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia made an inappropriate comment when he appeared as a special guest on Samay's India's Got Latent. He asked a contestant, "Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life or join in once and stop it forever?"
He, along with other panellists like Apoorva Makhija and Ashish Chanchlani, was condemned him for the distasteful remark. Though the YouTuber quickly apologised, the damage was done. Multiple FIRs have also been filed against them.
Samay had sought time till March 17 due to his prior commitments to appear before the authorities and record his statement. Recently, the Maharashtra Cyber Cell issued a third summon to Samay and asked him to appear on March 24. He failed to appear for a previous summon on March 19.
In the meantime, Samay has deleted all episodes of India's Got Latent from his YouTube channel.
"Everything that is happening has been too much for me to handle. I have removed all Indias Got Latent videos from my channel. My only objective was to make people laugh and have a good time. I will fully cooperate with all agencies to ensure their inquiries are concluded fairly. Thank you (sic)," he wrote in his statement on the controversy.
