YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia and content creator Apoorva Makhija finally appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday (March 6) in Delhi for questioning. They were summoned for their controversial remarks during their appearance on comedian Samay Raina's show India's Got Latent. In February, the NCW had strongly condemned Ranveer's comments.

Along with Ranveer and Apoorva, two producers of the show -- Saurabh Bothra and Tushar Poojari -- also appeared before the women's rights commission.

YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani's lawyer also arrived at the office of NCW. Ashish had also appeared as a guest on India's Got Latent episode along with Ranveer and Apoorva.

According to ANI, Ranveer and others will record their statements before the Chairperson and legal team of NCW. They will be questioned over their controversial comments and the NCW will then decide the future course of action against them.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court recently allowed Ranveer to resume his podcast after he moved an emotional appeal in the apex court calling his podcast his "only source of livelihood". He has been allowed to resume his show under the condition that he will maintain "decency" and "desired standards of morality".

The SC also noted that the livelihood of 280 other employees also depends on the telecast of show, and thus, reached the conclusion that Ranveer should be allowed to resume his podcast.

India's Got Latent controversy

The entire fiasco erupted when Ranveer appeared on India's Got Latent as a guest, and during a segment, asked a contestant, "Would you rather watch your parents have sex for the rest of your life, or would you join in once and stop it forever?"

The supposed joke was not received well by netizens, who then bashed Ranveer, Samay and the others related to the show, and demanded strict action against them for "promoting vulgarity and obscenity online".

Multiple FIRs were filed against Ranveer, Samay and others, post which the YouTuber issued an unconditional apology stating that there was a "serious lapse in his judgement".
