Armaan Malik’s impostor was arrested on Wednesday who had befriended and blackmailed several women presenting to be the famous Bollywood singer. Mahendra Varman, from Ulundurpet in Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu used Facebook and WhatsApp in the name of Malik.
Reports suggest he managed to receive obscene photographs from several cyber victims and then threatened to post them on social media if not given a ransom amount. He also collected lakhs of rupees over a period of time, police working on the case revealed. The district crime branch is said to have laid a trap for the 30 year old man, which led to his arrest when he came to collect money from a woman.
A report in Indian Express said Varman had been conducting training classes after he had completed teacher training course, but after quitting his job he chose such easy means to make money.
He has been booked under use of criminal force against women, violation of privacy, punishment for criminal intimidation, and cheating by personation by using computer resource, he was later lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison.
