Actor Rana Daggubati, who was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate over his alleged involvement in an illegal betting apps case, reached the Hyderabad zonal ED office on Monday with his team. As the actor arrived, the media and paparazzi went into a frenzy.
A video of the actor has now gone viral in which Rana can be seen getting mobbed by the media personnel waiting for him outside the ED office. The actor struggled to make his way inside through the sea of paparazzi, and members of his team too asked the media to back off.
The paps also tried to evoke a reaction from Rana, but he remained tightlipped, and quickly made his way to the office, avoiding the media.
What is the illegal betting apps case?
As many as 29 film celebs, YouTubers and influencers were booked by the ED for allegedly promoting illegal betting apps. Along with Rana, actors Vijay Deverakonda, Lakshmi Manchu, Prakash Raj, and others were also named in the scam.
According to News18, the investigation began after businessman Phanindra Sharma filed a complaint claiming that these influential celebs were promoting such betting apps, encouraging young and innocent people to invest their hard-earned money into the scam, and leaving them in financial distress later. A FIR was then registered against the celebs on March 19 this year by the Cyberabad Police.
After the FIR was registered, Rana said through his team that he had complied with all legal norms while associating with the apps.
A few days ago, actor Vijay Deverakonda was also seen visiting the ED office after being summoned.
