On the eve of 94th birth anniversary of late actor Raj Kapoor we have listed down five iconic things about RK studio for which are remembered even today. We all know that RK studio was like the first landmark achievement in Raj Kapoor’s career. It was not just a studio but a tourist spot and was famously known for the extravagant celebrations of festivals like Ganesh Chatruati and Holi. Post the fire break down in RK studio this year, the Kapoors decided to sell the property marking it as the end of an era.
So on the eve of Raj Kapoor’s birthday here are those five things about his RK studio which you many not witness or relive again once the iconic studio will be sold forever.
Weddings
All of Raj Kapoor’s children were married at RK studios including his grandchildren, Karishma and Riddhima Kapoor. In fact the celebrations for Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh’s marriage which was held at RK studio apparently went on for for 20 days . Known for living each and every moment of life, Raj Kapoor flew maestro Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan from Pakistan for Rishi Kapoor’s sangeet which was revealed by the latter in his book Khulaam Khulla. Rishi Kapoor wrote, “He [Raj] flew in maestro Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan from Pakistan for my sangeet. It was a typical Raj Kapoor event that started at 1130pm and continued till 6am.”
Festivals
Tourist spot
The studio was no less than a tourist spot for the residents of other cities and locals. People used to fly down from different cities to get a glimpse of the films shooting over there and to know more stories about the Showman.
Attraction point
It was definitely an attraction point as huge queue used to be lined up everyday just to see the glimpse of RK heriones and heroes behind the scenes. RK studio was one of the best place for Bollywood buffs, as all big actors used to have frequent visits at the iconic studio.
Iconic Movies
‘Mera Naam Joker’, Shri 420, Bobby to name a few, were some iconic films which were made in RK studio. At a time of Mera Naam Joker’s release, the film was rejected by critics and audience, however, over the time it is regarded as one of the finest works of the Kapoors. RK and Nargis singing ‘Pyaar Hua Ikraar Hua’ under umbrella in a rainy day became an epitome of romance. ‘Bobby’ starring Dimple Kapadia and Rishi Kapoor, was an introduction of teen-romance genre with a rich vs poor background. Even the controversial hit film, ‘Ram Teri Ganga Maili’ caught everyone’s attention because of Mandakini’s bold scenes was shot at RK studio. But despite that, the film became a blockbuster hit and the highest grossing Hindi film of 1985.
While the studios will be sold soon , we will always remember RK studio as Late Raj Kapoor’s favourite possession.
