Bollywood actress Preity Zinta recently found herself at the center of a political controversy after the Congress party alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) facilitated a waiver of her Rs 18 crore loan from New India Cooperative Bank. The official X account of Kerala Congress also claimed that the actress' social media account is handled by the BJP. Following her strong rebuttal to the claims, a fan on X asked her if she planned to file a defamation case against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

Responding to the query, Preity maintained a neutral stance, stating, "I don’t think it’s fair to vilify anyone like that, as he is not responsible for someone else’s actions. I believe in handling problems or issues directly & not through proxy battles."

"I also have no problem with Rahul Gandhi, so let him live in peace & I will live in peace too 😀," she added.

Preity Zinta slams Congress for 'fake news'

The controversy began when the official X handle of Kerala Congress accused the actress of handing over her social media accounts to the BJP in exchange for an Rs 18 crore loan waiver. The post further claimed that the bank had collapsed, leaving depositors struggling to recover their money.

In response, Preity Zinta called out the party for spreading misinformation. She wrote, "No, I operate my social media accounts myself, and shame on you for promoting FAKE NEWS! No one wrote off anything or any loan for me. I’m shocked that a political party or their representative is promoting fake news & indulging in vile gossip & click baits using my name & images."

She further clarified, "For the record, a loan was taken and FULLY PAID BACK – over 10 years ago. Hope this clarifies and helps so there are no misunderstandings in the future."

Meanwhile, on the work front, Preity is all set to make her comeback with Lahore 1947, which also stars Sunny Deol and his son Karan Deol. The Rajkumar Santoshi directorial is backed by Aamir Khan Productions.
