All the praise coming in for the gritty MISS LOVELY is putting a lovely smile on Niharika Singh’s face but the beauty queen turned model and now actress, admits that she is struggling in commercial cinema. She hasn’t had it easy thus far, what with her two films with Himesh Reshammiya not working out, either. However, Niharika maintains that the bleak scenario didn’t leave her sulking or knocking the doors of producers’ offices… “I moved on to my other interests. Of course there’s struggle in everything you do. Even the most successful actors of this industry are struggling each day. As far as I am concerned, the struggle was not so much to establish myself as an actress but to find my bearings in life.”
Evidently, here’s a girl interested in deeper things in life than becoming a hit hot star. She further admits that she doesn’t really identify with the usual potboiler stuff and goes so far as to declare that she is disturbed by the workings of the Hindi film industry. What gets her goat, in particular, are the long hours of waiting for the glorified stars to turn up and the disorganised manner of functioning.
Clearly, her experience while filming Ashim Alhuwalia’s MISS LOVELY has a lot to do with her thinking… The atmosphere on the set of MISS LOVELY, she says, was “completely egalitarian. Everyone from the spot boys to the actors was treated equally. I enjoyed that community feeling while working in MISS LOVELY. I don’t know if I can adjust in a more hierarchy-driven way of working.”
Admirable but we’d like to hear her say that should Karan Johar, for instance, call with a film offer!
Not lovely: What Niharika dislikes about bollywood!
