Squid Game fans assemble! After an uber-successful second season, the makers had announced in the New Year that the third season of the Korean drama is set to release in 2025 itself, sending fans into a tizzy. And to top it, Netflix seems to have accidentally revealed the exact date when the show will go on air this year.
As fans flooded social media with observations and theories about Squid Game season 3 after a cliffhanger end to season 2, they were in for a sweet surprise after a video shared by Netflix Korea revealed that the third installment will release much sooner than expected.
A video briefly shared on Netflix Korea's social media handle revealed that Squid Game season 3 is scheduled to release on June 27, 2025, which is only six months from now.
The video went viral within minutes but as soon as Netflix Korea realised the blunder, it deleted the video.
Creator of Squid Game, Hwang Dong-hyuk, stated that he had envisioned season 2 and 3 as a single season, however, post writing the script and shooting for the show, he realised that it would be too much for one season.
"And I also saw that aspect of it as yet another game as well, and so I thought that we would divide it into two seasons to have that – Gi-hun's revolt going into a failure, him ending up losing his best friend, that itself being yet another important climatic event in the first half of the season," Hwang Dong-hyuk said.

Actor Lee Jung-jae reprised his role of Seong Gi-hun in Squid Game season 2, while Lee Byung-hun returned as The Frontman, who is also Player No 001 in the second season. Wi Ha-jun returned as the cop Hwang Jun-Ho.
The new cast in the second season comprises of Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, Lee Seo-hwan, Jo Yuri, Choi Seung-hyun, and others.
