Themes of family, friendship, identity and courage underpin this delightful, charming sequel to the classic Finding Nemo about an adorable fish aptly named Dory (voiced by Ellen de Generes) which is looking for her lost family. The happy denizen of a coral reef in the Pacific, Dory gets separated from her parents in a undertow and winds up willy-nilly in the company of a wily, seven armed camouflaging octopus named Hank.
I read a newspaper report the other day which said fish can recognise at least 70 human faces! Boggles the mind it does but Dory (beautifully voiced by de Generes) who suffers from memory loss, clings to disjointed memories of loving parents who had raised her with the right values. Poor lil amnesiac Dory! She’s in for a rough time since she doesn’t know where she’s going and she doesn’t remember where she came from! Sometimes though, she remembers she wants to find her parents (Keaton and Levy).
In the Marine Life Centre in California, the aforementioned disabled octopus offers to help her in exchange for a tag which will secure his release into the ocean. Many adventures later, the under-the-sea creatures Destiny the near-sighted whale shark, Gerald the sea lion, Crush the sea turtle (voiced by director Stanton) and above all, Marlin and his son Nemo show Dory that true friends can make all the difference in the absence of family. The artistically-inclined will enjoy Disney’s dreamy oceanscapes teeming with lovely aquatic life. The animation is first rate and children in particular will enjoy this heart-warming fishy tale with a moral.
