Debuting in ‘Love Sex Aur Dhokha’ and being praised for movies like ‘Kai Po Che’, ‘Shahid’ and ‘Queen;, Rajkummar Rao is the new actor on the block. The actor said in an interview that he is now getting more offers in the industry.
“I was getting lot of offers after ‘Kai Po Che’. Earlier, I was getting 20 offers; now I am getting 30-40 offers a month. There are more options for me to choose from. But it does get difficult…Tough to say yes and no for a project. If a script excites me and challenges me as an actor then only do I say yes to it,” he said.
But it looks like Rajkummar is taking his time to get the best of the scripts as he insists that he has been choosy in selecting his films now. Says Rajkummar, “I want to associate myself with films that are good… Something that people will remember me for. I don’t see if the film comes from a small or a big banner – the script has to move me. I do not categorise a film as a commercial or a critically acclaimed one. I have been lucky that my films have done good business.”
The actor even won a National Award for Best Actor for ‘Shahid’ which was based on the life story of a lawyer and human rights activist Shahid Azmi who was later shot dead in 2010. Talking about the National Award he said, “I always felt secure, I never felt insecure about anything. For me acting means a lot, I don’t think too much about other things.”
The talented actor would next be seen on the big screen in Hansal Mehta’s directed ‘City Lights’ which is a remake of British film ‘Metro Manila’ (2013). ‘City Lights’ is about a couple relocating from Rajasthan to Mumbai in the hope of a better life and their struggles in the city. From reel to real, Rajkummar is a Gurgaon boy who came to Mumbai to pursue a career in acting.
“I am from a small town Gurgaon and when I came to Mumbai it was very different for me. My difficulties were not as much as that of my character Deepak in the film. My difficulty was to do that one film that will click… So, there was struggle for that,” he said.
Rajkummar would be seen along with his real life girlfriend Patralekha in ‘City Lights’ which is scheduled to be released on May 30, 2014. The film is presented by Fox Star Studios in association with Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt.
