Primping and preening is not their style, but even macho men like Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn need hair care. Popular hair stylist Savio John Pereira spells out the complete regimen!
Bollywood men have often tried to make a style statement with their hairstyles and many have had different looks based on the role they play. Short hair works best when it comes to maintenance and styling as compared to longer hair.
A good hair care routine would involve using the right shampoo and conditioner for your scalp and hair type. Products labelled for ‘Normal Hair’ will work for most men and won’t strip natural oils from your scalp. Moisturising shampoos are designed to provide additional moisture to dry hair and scalp, but will make normal hair appear greasy. The styling product would depend upon the hairstyle you want to create, for example textured, matte, gloss, etc.
Thickening products make hair appear more voluminous by coating it with protein.
Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar have fine to normal hair so I would recommend a volumising or a thickening shampoo from any of the men’s range and a conditioner for normal hair.
Regular deep-conditioning treatments make the scalp healthier and hair stronger. So I would suggest applying a hair mask once a week and leaving it on for 20 to 30 minutes to keep the hair in great shape.
Both these actors have short to medium length haircuts so depending on the character they play, I would use the appropriate styling product. Pomades work really well for this kind of hair texture and cut as it has ingredients that condition and add shine, allows you to create more texture and defines your hairstyle while making it appear healthy and touchable. It helps you create messy bedhead looks. A little goes a long way, so use it in extremely small quantities.
Mousses add a lot of volume and create a natural look when applied on dry hair. If the hair is longer in the front and you want to create a quiff, then you can add some mousse and blow-dry lifting the hair at the roots.
Gels are ideal for sculpting so if the actor has the same look throughout then no regular touch-ups would be required. Gels are also used to create sleek back looks.
Hairspray works with all hair types and gives overall staying power to your style. Apply it straight from the can, holding it at least six inches away from your head. Men with thinning hair will find hairspray to be their most useful styling aid because it’s light enough not to flatten hair against your scalp.
Most actors may feel lazy to shampoo their hair everyday so in that case we have something called dry shampoo that absorbs the excess oil from the scalp thus making the hair appear clean and fresh. There’s nothing to stop a regular guy from using it too occasionally.
And that should take care of all the hair queries you had but didn’t know whom to ask!
