Former actress Mamta Kulkarni, known for her roles in 90s Bollywood films, took sanyas and became Mahamandaleshwar of Kinnar Akhada at Mahakumbh in Prayagraj. However, days later, Rishi Ajay Das, the founder of Kinnar Akhada, expelled both Kulkarni and Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, alleging that Laxmi appointed Kulkarni without his consent, sparking outrage.

Recently, in an interview, Mamta opened up about her controversial semi-nude photoshoot for a magazine in the 90s, explaining that she did the photoshoot due to a lack of 'sexual consciousness.' Appearing on Aap Ki Adalat, she said, "I was then studying in ninth standard. I was shown a picture of Demi Moore by the Stardust people, which I did not find to be obscene. I also gave this statement at the time that, ‘I am still a virgin’ and people couldn’t digest that because according to them, people do anything to enter Bollywood."

"People might do that and they might enter Bollywood for money but it wasn’t the case with me. My father was a transport commissioner for 35 years. Since I did not know anything about sex, I didn’t know what was nudity about. If you are not sexually conscious, you won’t relate nudity to obscenity," added Mamta.

Further, Kulkarni also revealed why she did an item number Koi Jaye To Le Aaye in Ghatak despite being a top star. She shared that director Raj Kumar Santoshi personally requested her to take up the role. "The movie was lying canned for seven years because of its heroine Meenakshi Seshadri, who got married and the film wasn’t getting buyers. I went through my dance number as if I was doing a stage show, in which I was good at," she said.
