After much hype and months of promotions, Kingdom, starring Vijay Deverakonda, finally released in theatres on Thursday, and it has opened with mixed reviews at the box office. While fans of the actor did queue up outside theatres for early morning shows, the excitement toned down when they left the cinema halls. Most of those who have already watched the film called it "average".

Kingdom promised to show Vijay in a never-seen-before avatar, and from the trailer itself, it was understood that the film was set to be one gory affair. Laced with copious amounts of action and bloodshed, Kingdom tells the tale of a cop, played by Vijay, who goes undercover on mission, and that is when he finds his brother Siva, played by Satyadev, in Sri Lanka. How he reunites with his brother and whether he successfully accomplishes his mission forms the crux of the story.

Kingdom X Review

As the film hit the theatres, fans of Vijay, especially in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, watched it in huge numbers, but were seemingly left quite underwhelmed. "#kingdom very strictly avg for me, I tried to like it but it just underwhelmed. VD was good but didn’t feel that crazily diff from stuff he’s done before but still great presence and effort (sic)," a user reviewed the film on X.

Another fan wrote, "#Kingdom is an action drama that is technically very strong and works well on the drama front, though it falters somewhat in terms of emotional depth (sic)."

"Firstly, I was really excited for the film. I've been waiting for it since I heard the name Gowtham Thinnanuri. The hype lived up to my expectations until I watched the film. It wasn't outright bad but I expected more. VD was good. Satya Dev was sufficient (sic)," another review read.

Most of the people found the first half of the film to be more engaging than the post-interval block and climax.

Kingdom also stars Bhagyashree Borse as the female lead, and her chemistry with Vijay had become the talk of the town even before the film's release.

Kingdom has been directed by Gowtham Tinnanuri, who is the known for the film, Jersey.
