South Korean superstar Kim Soo Hyun's life seems to have turned upside down ever since the suicide of actress Kim Sae-ron, whom he allegedly dated when she was a minor. To make things worse for him, reports stated that his much-awaited K-drama Knock Off has been shalved owing to the controversy.
While parts of Knock Off, which was set to release on Disney+ Hotstar, have already been shot, the production of the show has been halted midway due to the raging controversy. And now, reports have it that the show might get scrapped completely, and if that happens, then Soo Hyun will have to pay a hefty price.
Kim Soo Hyun to pay THIS much in damages?
The show was reportedly mounted on a budget of $41.6 million dollar, of which 20 per cent was Soo Hyun's fees. He was reportedly set to recieve $3.46 million for the show.
However, as per the industry law, if a project gets affected due to the actor's personal scandals and controversies, then they are liable to pay the damages. In that case, Soo Hyun might have to pay around 30 per cent of the total production cost, if the show officially gets shelved due to his scandal.
This will be a major blow for Soo Hyun as the actor has already lost millions of followers on social media within a week, along with some huge brand deals, including those by Prada and Dinto.
What is the Kim Sae-ron & Kim Soo Hyun scandal?
Sae-ron died by suicide at her Seoul residence on February 16. Post her funeral, members of her family claimed that Soo Hyun was in a relationship with the late actress when he was in his 30s and she was only 15. They also accused the superstar of pressurising her to repay a 700 million won penalty, which pushed her to the brink of helplessness and depression.
However, the Queen of Tears star's agency denied all the claims, and added that though personal pictures and letters were shared, Soo Hyun never dated Sae-ron when she was a minor.
But later, messages exchanged between Sae-ron and Soo Hyun back in 2018 surfaced online, in which the latter was seen asking the former to delete all their chats on KakaoTalk and use Telegram to get in touch with him instead.
