There have been rumours doing round that Deepika Padukone may collaborate with Raazi director Meghna Gulzar for her next venture. And guess what, the Padmaavat actress has finally said Yes to Meghna for next which based on acid attack survivor, Laxmi Agarwal.
A report by Mumbai Mirror suggests that Deepika will not only act but put her hand into the production for the first time. Yes, Deepika is all set to produce the film as well. Notably, Deepika will be following footsteps of the current leading ladies like Priyanka Chopra and Anushka Sharma who are also now the established producers in Bollywood.
Talking about Deepika’s next untitled then, it is a story of Laxmi Agarwal who was attacked by a 32-year-old man at the age of 15. The attacker was an acquaintance of her family. After the acid attack, Laxmi’s face got totally burned but the lady showed her courage and successfully convinced the Supreme Court to have a more stringent punishment for acid attack cases. Notably, Laxmi also established an NGO Chhanv Foundation for acid attack survivors and also opened a cafe which is managed by them.
While speaking about the project to Mumbai Mirror, Deepika said, “When I heard this story, I was deeply moved as it’s not just one of violence but of strength and courage, hope and victory. It made such an impact on me, that personally and creatively, I needed to go beyond and so the decision to turn producer.”
Director Meghna also stated, “When you take a face as beautiful as hers and portray her as an acid attack survivor, the magnitude of the violence and damage is that much more resounding.”
