What can be a dejavu moment for anyone, was a mixed feeling one for rapper Naezy aka Naved Shaikh when he saw his name appearing in Gully Boy . Let us tell you that in Zoya Akhtar’s directorial even before the name of Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, you will see the names of Divine and Naezy appearing where it is stated that the film is inspired from the life’s of these two rappers. When we quizzed Naezy about the surreal moment, he simply said that he had mixed feeling when he saw her name in the film.
The Haq Hai, rapper said, “I had mixed feelings when I saw my name on the screen because it’s not the real story, we have to sacrifice our real story. But at the same time it was a big thing for us. We have collaborated with a big artist like Nas. Then of course Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt and Zoya Akhtar these are big names . Gully Boy was indeed a special moment for us. We got so much importance so it was good for us.”
So does he fear that once the fever of Gully Boy fades away, the buzz created by the film about Indian rappers will also mellow down, “From the first song Aafat which was released in 2014 which broke the internet , I think from that very point the status of rapping has only grown. It has always gone upward. Sure it has got a big boast after Gully Boy but I don’t think rap will ever see a drop as this is a very youth and young thing . The way the world is digitalising, so I think we are not also depended on Bollywood or media when it comes to rap as our reach organically comes from digital world. Rap is on a rise and its is only going to get better.”
While Naezy’s popularity has definitely gone higher after the release of Gully Boy, one thing which is still the same is his parents disapproval for his rap.”They are still rigid about my raps. For them all all this fame and hype is very normal. Weather its Gully Boy or my rap songs, these are just mere projects or a kind of a job for them.” said Naezy
And what about the female attention which he is receiving, how is he dealing with it, “I think I am dealing it with a very laid back manner. I don’t want to get into all of this. I want to stay focus. I don’t want my family to get disturbed from any of my acts because now everyone’s attention is on us. So I am taking every step very calmly and consciously. I am being aware all the time.” concluded Naezy
